Egypt’s public, public enterprise sector employment declines by 1% in January 2018: CAPMAS

The number of workers in the public and public enterprise sector reached 818,800 people on 1 January 2018,  compared to 826,900 people on 1 January 2017, a decrease of 1%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The CAPMAS issued on Sunday its annual bulletin of workers in public and public enterprise sector statistics in 2018, the main indicators of which are as follows:

The number of male workers reached 717,500 persons in 2018, compared to 724,700 persons in 2017, a decrease by 1 %. Meanwhile, the number of female workers reached 101,300 persons in 2018, compared to 102,300 persons in 2017, a decline by 1%.

Housing and Construction sectors recorded the highest number of workers, 222,100 persons, representing 27.1% of total public labour, followed by industry, petroleum, and mineral resources sector with 24.6 %, then the electricity sector with 15.9%.

Cairo had the highest number of workers in the public sector, reaching 264,000 workers, representing 32.3% of the total public workers in Egypt, followed by Alexandria with 94,000 workers, Giza with about 60,000 workers, Gharbeya with about 46,000 workers, and Qaliubiya with about 35,000 workers.

Executive jobs recorded the highest share of 30.1% of the total public employees, while office jobs recorded the lowest share of 1.3%.
