Hegazy left his previous position days after the Al-Wahat terror attack

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi honoured on Saturday the former chief of staff of the Egyptian army, Mahmoud Hegazy, who is now working as a presidential advisor for strategic planning and crisis management.

Al-Sisi awared Hegazy the republic’s highest medal for his efforts for and services to the nation, according to a statement issued by Tamer El-Refaey, military spokesperson.

Before being appointed as a presidential advisor, Hegazy served as chief of staff of the Egyptian military forces for more than three years, from 2014 to 2017.

The attack resulted in the death of 16 policemen, according to the Ministry of Interior.

During the ceremony, Egypt’s Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi praised Hegazy’s efforts in the army during a hard fight against terrorism. Sobhi added that Hegazy participated in developing the armed forces to reach the highest level, the statement read.
