Shoukry to visit Tunisia to continue discussion over Libyan crisis

The meeting will address the political process and the security situation in Libya

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry will arrive in Tunis on Sunday to attend a tripartite ministerial meeting with Arab counterparts to discuss Libya.

The meeting will come as a completion to the ongoing talks between the ministers and will address in particular the political process and the security situation in Libya.

This meeting is being held periodically with the participation of the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria to review and discuss the latest developments of the Libyan issue, within the framework of the mechanism established by the three Arab neighbours of Libya.

The ministers recently met on 15 November in Cairo, where they reviewed efforts exerted by Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia to solve the issue, and agreed on continuing consultation and discussion.

Egypt’s participation reflects its keenness to stabilise Libya and support efforts to achieve national reconciliation and implementation of the political agreement. The meeting also comes at an important and sensitive time, during which the United Nations is intensifying its efforts to implement the roadmap for the political process, according to a statement by the ministry’s.

Egypt has actively sought a solution to the Libyan turmoil over the past few months in view of increased turmoil over the past few years following the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi, as militants have taken over several areas in Libya.
