Siemens will launch the SICEMENT Electrification system tailored to provide the energy requirements of industrial cement plants and achieve mechanisation in manufacturing operations. The new system is scheduled to be launched on 18 August during the “Bringing Power to Cement Industry” forum in Cairo.

Egypt is one of the major cement producing and consuming countries in the Middle East and Africa. Egypt’s production of cement reached 70m metric tonnes last year, according to the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency affiliated with the Ministry of Environment. The demand for cement is expected to increase due to the growth witnessed in the infrastructure projects in Egypt.

Cement manufacturers in Egypt are facing significant and growing challenges to reduce costs and increase production rates. At the same time, they seek to sell their products at competitive prices and reduce the negative effects on the environment.

Emad Ghali, CEO of Siemens Egypt, said that his company’s family of products and services include the largest gas and steam turbines in the world. The company allows cement companies to establish power plants and manage energy consumption in the factories. Siemens also provides mechanisation solutions to enable manufacturers to become more competitive by reducing the period of production delivery to the market, in order to achieve quicker production operations.

The energy cost represents about 30% of total cement production costs. The power generation and distribution systems face significant challenges due to the surrounding circumstances and the growing consumption rates.

Siemens presented the SICEMENT Electrification system solutions to provide an integrated vision for electricity networks within the factories, including high-pressure electric transformers needed for connection with the national grid. The components of this system were developed to work in harmony and full integration with each other to save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
