Google, Microsoft most attractive employers for Egyptian graduates

At least 50% of all Egyptian students polled want to work for an international company

A talent survey to help determine what motivates Egyptian graduates, conducted by Universum, showed the chief attractive element is an international environment.

Universum reached out to 3,116 future Egyptian employees. These students attended seven universities; 1,143 are engineering students while 679 are business majors, according to the report.

The major result was ranking the most attractive employers for Egyptian students.

Business students mostly chose Google, Microsoft, and HSBC as the most attractive employers while engineering and IT students listed Google, Microsoft, and Intel as their preferred employers.

At least 50% of all Egyptian students polled want to work for an international company, since the top preference is the possibility of international travel and relocation, according to Universum.

“This motivation makes sense given the amount of political and socioeconomic upheaval that occurred over the past few years”, the report states.

“As an employer [abroad], you may want to use Egyptian students as a way to staff other offices given Egyptian students’ comparatively low wage demands of €750 a month; using Egyptian nationals might be a cost-effective staffing option”.

After internationalism, the report said Egyptian students value entrepreneurship and opportunities to be creative in the workplace, as well as the ability to strike a positive work-life balance.

Universum is an international corporation that delivers surveys to millions of students and professionals and provides ideal employer research, full-service communication, and strategic consulting services.

The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2015 in Egypt for the 15-64 age range recorded up to 12.7%, with 3.5 million individuals, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
