The Islamic State in Iraq and the Sham (ISIS) posted photos online of a captured Jordanian military pilot. The militants allegedly shot down a Jordanian fighter jet with an anti-aircraft missile near the city of Raqqa, in northern Syria, on Wednesday.
The media centre of Raqqa, an ISIS-affiliated news organisation, posted several pictures showing the pilot stripped of his uniform among a group of armed men, along with photos of his identification card. The centre also said the pilot, Muaaz Al-Kasasba, is an apostate and will face retribution. Meanwhile, his father called on his release through local Jordanian media.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that clashes between ISIS militias and regime forces killed 22 people in the same area, including 9 children on Wednesday.
Jordan is part of the US-led coalition that aims to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS, along with Canada, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
